Seminars and Workshops

The Indiana State Gospel Music Convention features three seminars that will add to any vocal group's capabilities. Enhancing your skills in Sound Reenforcement, Harmonization, and Song Writing all will make your music ministry more effective and help reach more people. Below are brief descriptions of what is covered by our presenters, all experts in their fields. You won't want to miss any of these seminars and workshops, which are scheduled on Saturday morning and afternoon of the Convention. Any one of them will be worth the price of admission even if there were no concerts scheduled.

Sound Reenforcement

Sweetwater Pro Audio presents “Sound Ideas for Gospel Quartets.”  Learn about the latest technology and techniques in sound.  From choosing the right microphone to understanding how to best use in-ear monitors, you’ll gain knowledge and practical advice from the nation’s leading music instrument and pro audio retailer.  We’ll show you how to control tracks remotely, how to properly use effects, and recommend affordable mixers.  Don’t miss this opportunity to take your performance to the next level!

Harmonization

Richard Treptow, former international adjudicator for the Barbershop Harmony Society and the ICCA (Intercollegiate A Cappella Association (think the movie, “Pitch Perfect”) takes you through the finer points of harmony singing.  This seminar will include important (and not so obvious) principles of harmony singing, volume relationships, vowel migration, vowel matching through 16 vowel sounds, interchangeability of volume, energy, and vocal color, how intonation is affected by what chord what part of the chord you are singing, tips for voicing chords, and more.  Come with a notepad!

Song Writing

Bob Muncie is a pastor, pianist, poet, and songwriter.  He started writing songs at 12 years of age, 49 years ago, and has written about 760 songs.  This seminar will cover such things as lyric, meter, musical form, electronic helpers (Encore, Garage Band, Band-in-a-Box, etc.), copyrighting, royalties, and licensing organizations.  Bring your notepad and a memory stick if you think you might like the PowerPoint!
